~ Elizabeth Bowen

. . . of all the beautiful things there to look forward to in spring -- longer days and the promise of evenings on terraces, pastel dresses with golden shoes and the first magnolia blossoms -- perhaps the most intoxicating, might be the change to begin again at winter's end, fresh and new and in extravagant shades of spring white . . .

. . . and having been forever in love with love, and forever ever in love, it's no wonder that valentine's day is very nearly a national holiday around here, and perhaps the very best thing about it falling on a tuesday, is the chance to celebrate again, for there are dinner reservations also for the weekend, and for tonight, there will be champagne and other perfectly wonderful things, and however you celebrate, or not at all, wishing you so much love—the kind that overflows on everything and fills the air . . .

happy, happy valentine's day! hope it's sweet & sexy and positively filled with beautiful things, —roséline xo

. . . sometimes the most inspiration comes from things we have never before seen, or places we have never before been, and so it is with these gauzy, dream-like and light-filled photographs of intricately carved wood and gilded ceilings, chandeliers, floral wallpaper and velvet, in hungary [budapest & keszthely] a place had never before considered, until now . . .

hello-header2
coffee-white-tablecloth

. . . hello! after a busy & lovely weekend, a [very] late start here, and how are things? the new week is already filled with a million things, including still more sorting & organising [beribboned boxes of old photographs, long-lost love letters and beautifully written correspondence cards], and plotting & plan-making, meetings and appointments and telephone calls, but also, moments of leisure in all of the busy-ness, for catching up with an old friend, and lattes and mid-day lunch dates . . .

hope you had a beautiful weekend, and that your week is off to a perfect start,

. . . the first week of this new year has already been a spectacular flurry of activity, beginning with a new tiffany blue & gold-leafed daybook waiting to be filled, and on the eve of new year's day, a meeting in a hotel lobby amidst the still twinkling post-holiday fairy lights, to plot and to plan and to dream, and there is so much to tell you, including, currently, two enormously exciting projects in the works, a wedding in paris in june, and still to come, the grandest adventure of all, that may just change everything -- and so, it is wild anticipation that we begin the second week of this new year . . .

breakfast-in-bed2

. . . so lovely to see you again -- how was your weekend? ours was spent mostly in a cosy tangle on the sofa, amongst lace curtains and leopard print cushions, and there were films and chocolate and cheesecake, leisurely walks in the last of the fallen leaves and mornings in sunlight, and, for a change from the usual french fare, a traditional sunday dinner, roast and rosemary new potatoes, brussels sprouts, carrots and yorkshire pudding, and at the end of it all, a little time to breath in the last days of autumn . . .

happy monday! hope you've had a beautiful weekend, and that your week is off to a perfect start,

. . . on thursday night, took a little time to play around with the wonderful collection of nail varnishes scattered about, on powder room shelves and mirrored vanities, for a change, rather than stopping by the salon, and came up with the absolute prettiest combination -- palest pink & flecks of gold, perfect for this weekend's dinners and gallivants around & about . . .

"It was one of those perfect English autumnal days which occur more frequently in memory than in life."

......................................................................................................

. . . this morning, the sun shone brightly, an utterly perfect start to the weekend, and a perfect way to end the month and we're ready for whatever november brings, so long as there are cosy heather grey sweaters and burnt crimson, logs by the fire and gilded frames, a sprinkle of chocolate on our morning coffee -- and so -- from this moment on, let the leaves fall where they may . . .

{take me away № 01 | perfectly packed: a list}

take-me-away-hed
post1-1

for-the-boys3

A wonderful trip must always begin with preparation and organization. Proper organization defeats any what-ifs and mishaps and can save you from little disasters that may unexpectedly occur.

make-up-brushes

gilded

Now, this certainly does not entail bringing one’s entire home within a suitcase or two, but it does make use of the essentials, as well as many additional small items that can come in handy at the most crucial moment.

packing2

Over the years, I have received advice from a lovely neighbour, who often travels the world, speaking at conferences as well as vacationing. Along with some of the wonderful tips she has shared, combined with a few other things learned along the way, I hope to assist you in planning for your next journey.

post1

post1-2

To be certain that everything is covered, one must make use of a comprehensive list. Attached, you will find a lovely list that I’ve assembled, suitable for all seasons of the year. Please download and print as many as you need, check the boxes and add any additional information that you like . . .

packing1

Some additional helpful packing & preparation tips:

01 Keep a copy of your list. There is always the chance that your baggage might be misplaced, and so, with your list, you have evidence of exactly what your luggage contained.

02 Keep in mind that only 100ml of liquid per container is acceptable on a plane. Often your local drug store will carry small, fillable containers that are the perfect size.

03 Download helpful apps ahead of time to assist you in your travels, such as maps, destination information, weather and even common phrases for that specific country (rather than packing physical maps, books and such).

04 Be sure to look into the country of your destination – will you need to pack an adaptor?

05 There are some wonderful tutorials on how to best fold your clothing, including full skirts, for travel.

06 Always keep a little sachet or two of your favorite scent within your luggage. Upon arriving to your
accommodations, you can also refresh your footwear by placing one or two within your shoes.

07 Add a special marker to your luggage so that you might distinguish yours quickly amongst the rest upon picking it up at the airport. I often tie a favorite ribbon of the moment to mine.

08 If you are flying, be sure to visit the airline’s website /airport for specific information on luggage weight limits, size and more.
